My trip to Plastec west this year was more than I expected, the last time I attended this show was in the 90’s. The show was in the Anaheim convention center and consisted of Plastec and six other trade shows. The shows ranged from Medical Manufacturing, Green Manufacturing, to Automation, Electronics and Packaging. There were hundreds of booths and working displays. The electric molding machines from Engel and Sumitomo are very quiet and clean. The Engel machine was a silicone machine making a small suction cup. The Sumitomo was molding syringes; eight at time with a robot that would remove the parts from the mold and place them in a rack on a conveyor belt. Branson Welding had a booth; it was first time I had seen laser welding. Really there was nothing to see the lasers are shielded for your protection. It did produce a good quality weld on the part they were using. I met some of my vendors for the first time; it’s good to put a face with a name. I spent a good six hours at the show and I still missed a lot. The weather was rainy and cold for southern California. But I did enjoy the show.
